Ruby Daisy Whisky Glass

$365.00

Ruby Daisy is cut for color that stops above a clear foot. Deep ruby covers the upper bowl. Where the cutter opens the face, clear crystal takes over so the pour stays readable.

The upper body is asa-no-ha, a hemp-leaf star lattice cut field-tight. A row of clear oval scallops marks the turn to the base. From above, the floor reads as a radial star.

Handmade Edo Kiriko crystal, hand-cut in Tokyo. Use it for Japanese whisky, soda on the rocks, or water.

They were nice. But the colors weren't quite as vibrant as was depicted on the website.

Beautiful glass but the blue isn’t as vibrant as I thought it would be. With that being said I still love it.

Kind of expensive but worth every penny. I got it for my dad for father's day, and he hasn't stopped talking about it. I think im his favourite child now. And you could be too for the low low price of a lot of money. My wallet aches but I will most likely be buying more of these for the next father's and mother day. Gotta stay the favourite somehow am I right people?

Crafting Of Edo Kiriko

Design

A framework of simple grid lines is marked onto the glass to guide the composition. Using a bamboo stick or brush with red iron oxide, the artisan draws these guidelines directly on the surface. Fine baselines are then carefully scored with a whetstone. From these precise marks, the intricate patterns characteristic of Edo kiriko emerge, each cut reflecting years of accumulated skill and artistic mastery.

First cuts

The base takes shape at roughly three-quarters of its ultimate width and depth through cutting. A high-speed rotating disc coated in sand paste, typically emery powder suspended in abrasive medium, scores the glass surface. Pattern borders and irregular motifs emerge incrementally, each line refined with precision. The interplay of cut depth and thickness depends entirely on the artisan's accumulated skill; no blueprints guide this work.

Adjustments

In the final cutting stage, a whetstone disc, natural or artificial, refines the patterns established earlier and polishes the surface to clarity. Where the metal disc reaches its limit, the whetstone creates the delicate details that complete the design. Precision is essential: every trace of powder must be removed and the finish brought to its full brilliance.

Polishing

The polishing stage—the final step in production—restores the glass to transparency after cutting, revealing the characteristic luminosity and brilliance of Edo kiriko. Soda-lime glass, the most common substrate, undergoes this transformation, while high-class crystal receives additional chemical refinement through hydrofluoric acid treatment. The process employs a range of specialized discs: paulownia and willow wood, hair brush, and belt varieties, each suited to different sections of the piece. Water and polishing compounds are worked across the surface to achieve a glittering finish, with delicate areas refined by cloth or brush. A final buffing with cloth disc completes the work, drawing out the full radiance and depth characteristic of cut glass.
